Uplands Village Announces Affiliation with United Church Homes
Uplands Village announces its new affiliation with United Church Homes (UCH), a national provider of senior living services, and the engagement of UCH’s management services company United Church Homes Management (UCHM) to operate its retirement community in Pleasant Hill, Tenn.
The Uplands Village Board of Directors approved a three-year management agreement with UCHM on Aug. 18. The agreement calls for UCHM to assume management of Uplands Village and provide support to its governing board. In addition, the community’s executive director, nursing home administrator and controller will be employees of UCHM, according to the contract.
The agreement begins Oct. 1, 2017, and continues through Sept. 30, 2020.
United Church Homes Management Executive Director Karen Messick said she is excited about the new affiliation and management services relationship with Uplands Village.
“By providing UCHM’s expertise, Uplands Village will continue to meet the needs of its local community for many years to come,” Messick said.
United Church Homes Management’s Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer John K. Renner said the management agreement is a win-win for both organizations.
“It continues the growth of our organization and extends our expertise to Uplands Village, a stand-alone community with United Church of Christ heritage,” Renner said.
United Church Homes established UCHM to assist senior living organizations that need operational, financial and clinical management support services.
Uplands Village, like other stand-alone senior living providers, is seeking assistance from UCHM to remain competitive as it faces increased regulatory and operational challenges.
“The Uplands Village Board of Directors recognized that to be competitive in today’s complex operating environment, the community needs support,” Renner said. “We have the expertise in operations, quality management, accounting, payroll, procurement and capital management to be successful. Many stand-alone communities cannot afford the resources needed to remain competitive.”
Uplands Village, founded by Dr. May Wharton, is an ecumenical, continuing care retirement community that provides independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care and long-term care services for 275 residents on its 500-acre campus.
“The management assistance and services gained through this affiliation with United Church Homes and UCHM secures the future of Uplands Village and Dr. May Wharton’s legacy of care and services to seniors for years to come,” said Uplands Board Chair Christine Stinson.
