United Church of Christ’s EdenHill Communities Answer Call to Serve in Aftermath of Harvey
As the relief work and rebuilding from Hurricane Harvey continues, the United Church of Christ’s EdenHill Communities of New Braunfels, Texas, has volunteered to serve as a collection site for donated items.
In Texas since 1910, EdenHill — formerly Eden Home, Inc. — has long had a strong connection to the community. “When we were approached by New Braunfels Flood Help, we jumped on board immediately,” says Laurence Dahl, executive director and CEO of EdenHill. “New Braunfels Flood Help is a group of businesses that combined all of our efforts to collect needed items and deliver them directly to the flood-affected areas. Truckloads were going each day to the most devastated areas in Texas.”
The effort at EdenHill has involved everyone, from employees and residents of the Continuing Care Retirement Community to local neighbors. Together, they “donated more than a truck load of items that went directly to the flood victims in Rockport, Texas,” says Dahl.
Additionally, EdenHill continues to donate a portion of its Sunday morning chapel service offering to hurricane recovery efforts. “These are offerings from residents living in independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing,” Dahl says. “Everyone wants to help.”
EdenHill has posted a list of items that can be dropped off at any of its concierge desks.
