United Church of Christ’s Lake Prince Woods contributes over 10,000 volunteer hours in 2017

United Church of Christ-affiliated Lake Prince Woods Senior Community in Suffolk, Va., takes time to give back to their community through volunteering. Over 10,000 volunteer hours were served by Lake Prince Woods volunteers in 2017. Fifty-eight residents at Lake Prince Woods volunteer within as well as outside of the community.

The community volunteers take on tasks including — but not limited to — participating in life enrichment programming, working in the gift shop, singing in the Golden Voices choir and Gospel Coral, crocheting hats for the local hospital, visiting Healthcare residents, leading Bible studies, serving as hostess in the dining room, and serving on a variety of committees.

Some 15 volunteers from the greater community — who assist in healthcare, assisted living and Memory Care — also contributed. These volunteers participated in pet therapy, served as musicians at the Sunday Vesper services, and assisted the Healthcare life enrichment department.

“We volunteer because we love giving back. I would want someone to do the same for me,” said Louise Perkins, resident at Lake Prince Woods.
