UCC-related Emmaus Homes Celebrates 125 Years of Service to Persons with Disabilities
In an evening filled with history and special tributes, the 125th anniversary celebration of UCC-related Emmaus Homes in St. Charles, Mo., culminated Feb. 23 with a special gala event enjoyed by more than 200 attendees.
From the start, the evening focused on the unique history of Emmaus Homes. “As soon as guests walked in, they were able to walk through history, with over 40 unique photos and artifacts from various points in Emmaus’ history,” says Steven Amrhein, brand manager. “This included a Deaconess dress and a very unique bicycle built for a client of Emmaus.”
At each table, attendees also were able to pore through historical cards from different eras. The entertainment include dancing, a silent auction, among other activities. The Emmaus Bell Choir performed, debuting a song never before played in a live setting. The choir received a standing ovation, Amrhein says.
The evening also included tributes to the ministry and people of Emmaus. Cindy Clark, president and CEO, recognized the Emmaus board of directors, staff, donors, and supporters. Additionally, two videos emphasized Emmaus’ gifts to the wider community: one, a slide show celebrating each year of Emmaus’ ministry; and the other telling the story of Emmaus’ importance to one family.
Brett’s Journey to Emmaus “talked about the story of one of our clients, Brett, as told by his mother,” says Amrhein. “She expressed how important it was for Brett to move to Emmaus, not only for his own independence, but also for her own marriage. The video told their story and why Emmaus is such an important part of people’s lives.”
Many of the artifacts and photos will remain on display in Emmaus’ offices in St. Charles, Mo.
