Back Bay Mission Receives Gold Recognition Among Coastal Mississippi Nonprofits
Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Miss., was surprised by Coastal Mississippi’s Sun Herald to learn that it had been awarded gold recognition as the best nonprofit agency in the area.
The newspaper’s 2024 Best of Coastal Mississippi awards involved more than 1,900 businesses, organizations, and people competing for gold, silver, and bronze designations in 260 categories. A total of 570 businesses, agencies, and people received gold, silver, or bronze designations.
“Our team is committed to ‘making good trouble’ by challenging the status quo and advocating for those in need,” said Rev. James Pennington, Back Bay Mission’s executive director. “It’s deeply gratifying to see our efforts recognized, and we are incredibly grateful to The Sun Herald and the community for this acknowledgment. This award fuels our passion to continue our mission, ensuring that everyone has access to the resources and support they need to thrive.”
In addition to Back Bay’s gold designation, the Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA received silver designation, and Combat Wounded Veterans of South Mississippi took bronze.
The awards, as voted on by people across South Mississippi, and are designed to support Mississippi Coast businesses. In addition to the nonprofit category, this year’s winners included South Mississippi’s favorite restaurants and bars. attractions, casinos, schools, banks, hairdressers, spas, garden center, lawyers, car dealerships, real estate, services, and shopping. Each category included a number of subcategories. Nonprofit was a sub-category of services.
