CHHSM, UCC Offices Team Up for April Trainings Leading Up to Medicaid and SNAP Advocacy Week

The UCC’s Council for Health and Human Service Ministries (CHHSM), UCC Wellness Ministries, and the UCC’s DC Office of Public Policy & Advocacy are hosting a Medicaid and SNAP Advocacy Week the week of April 21, where registrants from around the country will have in-district meetings with their members of Congress in support of Medicaid, CHIP, and SNAP.

The week will include two invaluable, free online trainings on how to meet with Congressional representatives and more. Here is the schedule:

  • April 4 at 3 pm ET: Zoom Training on How to Request a Meeting with a Member of Congress
  • April 11 at 3 pm ET: Zoom Training on How to Meet with a Member of Congress
  • April 21 – April 25: Week of in-district meetings in support of Medicaid and SNAP

The one-hour training sessions will walk you through how to

  • Set up a meeting with your senators and representatives, and
  • Prepare for that meeting.

Register for Advocacy Week and the Zoom training sessions. The deadline for sign-up is April 1.

Webinar participants will receive meeting request scripts, talking points, and other materials that will walk participants step by step through how to lift their voice in support of these critical programs. The webinar planners emphasize that no experience is necessary.

“Led by Jesus, a renowned healer, the UCC proudly stands as a faith community that believes everyone deserves access to affordable, safe, and high-quality healthcare, and essential, nutritious food,” the three offices said in a statement. “Medicaid was established to provide healthcare for low-income Americans and those with disabilities. Our congregants and neighbors include some of the 100 million people who have healthcare coverage through Medicaid or CHIP, and 40 million receive assistance in purchasing nutritious groceries through SNAP. Additionally, CHHSM service providers depend on these programs to continue serving communities in need.”

“As Christians, we believe that no one should live in or die from poverty,” the statement concluded. “We must raise our voices nationwide in support of Medicaid Awareness Month and the 60th anniversary of this life-saving program.”

Register for the two online training sessions, and commit to scheduling and attending in-district meeting with your members of Congress today.
