Lake Prince Woods Grants Anniversary Dream, Thanks to Special EveryAge Program
When Leslie Lunger mentioned to Lake Prince Woods’ healthcare staff that her anniversary with husband Randy was approaching, the staff worked together to create the perfect evening to honor their love, including an outdoor vow renewal ceremony and romantic anniversary dinner.
Lake Prince Woods, part of CHHSM member EveryAge, held the celebration for the couple Oct. 6, thanks to EveryAge’s Grant-a-Dream program. The program provides residents within EveryAge communities the opportunity celebrate their passions while creating joy and lasting memories.
“I feel like Cinderella,” Leslie told the staff on the special day. Healthcare staff worked together to do Leslie’s hair and makeup and bought her a gown just for the occasion. “This has been such a magical day and I’m so grateful to Lake Prince Woods for helping us celebrate.”
Leslie Kruger met and married her husband, Randy, in 2007. They lived together in the Smithfield, Va., area for 10 years until Leslie moved to Lake Prince Woods in Suffolk, Va., part of CHHSM member EveryAge. Since then, Randy has continued to be a constant, loving presence in Leslie’s life, visiting her daily for all their meals, bringing their dog, Schatz, for regular visits, even volunteering with Lake Prince Woods Activities Department in order to spend more time with her.
“I have such a deep respect for Leslie and she returns that respect to me,” said Randy. “This is the second marriage for both of us, so we know every marriage has rough times; but Leslie shows she loves me on a daily basis.”
“Pre-COVID, Randy was here from breakfast to dinner,” said Megan Pryor, activities director. “During the beginning of the pandemic, he wasn’t able to see Leslie as much as he had previously and we could see the difference in her. We are so excited that EveryAge’s Grant-a-Dream program gave them the opportunity to celebrate their anniversary in such a special way, especially in these trying times.”
The Lungers’ vow renewal ceremony was held in one of the several beautiful gazebos found on Lake Prince Woods’ 172 acres and was officiated by its chaplain, Gary Newsome. Following the ceremony, the Lungers’ enjoyed dinner for two from nearby George’s Steakhouse, along with a beautiful cake donated by Janette Johnson with Just For Kicks Cupcakes & More in Surry, Va.
