LeadingAge/Ziegler Report Features Several CHHSM Members
The 18th Annual LeadingAge/Ziegler LZ 200 2021 report was released at the end of October and, once again, several UCC-related, CHHSM older adult community organizations made the top 200 across a number of categories. The report presents the data by category collected for the 200 largest not-for-profit senior living multi-sites, government-subsidized housing multi-sites, and single campuses.
LeadingAge and Ziegler — a privately held investment bank, capital markets and proprietary investments firm that specializes in the healthcare, senior living and education sectors — created the report because of the unique role nonprofits play in the older adult health care field. As it states, while regular businesses ask first how to ensure a reasonable return for shareholders, nonprofits ask different questions: What is best for the residents and clients we serve? What is best for our community? How can we reinvest revenues for the betterment of the entire community?
This focus on the community and clients allows nonprofit providers to offer some of the best care and services in the United States “because of their passion and commitment to the not-for-profit philosophy,” the report reads in part. “This dedicated enthusiasm of not-for-profits has inspired boards of directors, attracted volunteers and devoted staffs, and led to groundbreaking innovations in the way we care for the elderly. A mission-driven philosophy of service with dignity and respect for the person is the inherent benefit the families, residents, and clients of not-for profit senior living communities have found.”
Among the 171 faith-based nonprofit affiliations listed in the report, nine are UCC-related. Additionally, out of 15 Christian denominations listed, the UCC ranks 7th in total units.

In the separate category of the 150 largest nonprofit single-campus older adult living organizations, Beatitudes Campus ranked 16th and EdenHill Communities ranked 98th.
The report makes clear that the LZ 200 is only the beginning of a profile of providers delivering services to older adults, both residential and home-based. As it states, “We embrace each organization’s contribution to the populations it serves. Regardless of an organization’s size, not-for-profits are strong in numbers and bound by shared values.”
