RHF Celebrates Groundbreaking of Central Metro Place Mixed-Income Older Adult Community

Ground was broken last July on the new mixed-income older adult community.

On July 19, 2024, more than 70 community members, city officials, and project stakeholders gathered to break ground for Retirement Housing Foundation’s (RHF) Central Metro Place, a new mixed-income community designed to serve older adults ages 62 and older in Baldwin Park, Calif.

Stuart Hartman, president and CEO, and Don Hart, chair of RHF national board joined Baldwin Park Mayor Emmanuel Estrada and Mayor Pro Tem Jean Ayala, plus representatives from the state senator and county supervisor’s offices to celebrate the beginning of construction for this much needed affordable housing community.

A Welcoming Environment

Central Metro Place will feature 54 apartment homes tailored for older adults, along with an on-site staff apartment.

Residents will enjoy a controlled entry environment with key fob access and surveillance cameras throughout the building. The main entrance leads to a vibrant first-floor hub, featuring a reception area, manager’s office, and a suite of amenities designed for socialization and activity. Among these are a community room with a kitchen, an arts and crafts room, an exercise area, laundry facilities, a mailroom, and common restrooms.

With its central design, the first floor will offer residents and their visitors a warm and interactive space for gatherings, relaxation, and connections.

Outside, a courtyard will serve as an inviting space for barbecues and events, while raised planter boxes will allow residents to enjoy gardening.

The second floor of the development will house the manager’s unit and the service coordinator’s office. The service coordinator will play a crucial role in assisting residents with their needs, ensuring they can age in place with dignity and support. Additionally, a computer room will provide residents with access to updated technology, enabling connectivity and learning opportunities.

Transit-Oriented Living in the Heart of Southern California

Strategically located, Central Metro Place is the epitome of transit-oriented development. Situated just across the street from a light rail system, the property offers seamless access to transportation throughout Southern California, making it an ideal location for older adults seeking mobility and independence.

A Vision for Community

Central Metro Place is not just about housing; it’s about fostering a community. The building’s design and features aim to enhance social interactions and provide a sense of belonging for its residents. The community room will serve as a venue for holiday celebrations and special events, further enriching the lives of those who call Central Metro Place home.

Financing for the development and construction of Central Metro Place has been provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), City of Baldwin Park, RHF (Retirement Housing Foundation), Wells Fargo, and Citi Community Capital.

The community is scheduled to open the first quarter of 2026.
