Seven Counties Services/Bellewood & Brooklawn (SCS/B&B), based in Louisville, Ky., celebrated its first annual awards dinner Sept. 20. The theme of the evening centered around family, and this was in evidence throughout the evening. The dinner celebrated valued employees and board members who have dedicated many years to service. It also introduced the recipients of two key awards: The Equity Award and The Bruce W. Furguson — Healer of Hearts & Minds Award.

Equity Award

Presented by the SCS/B&B Racial Equity Diversity Initiatives (REDI) Group, the Equity Award is awarded to honor a community partner who has been identified as a leader in equity work. This individual or organization shows exemplary leadership in the areas of racial justice in practice, confronting systematic oppression, and creating inclusive avenues for social change.

This year, the award was presented to Damon Cobble and the Minority Mental Health Project (MMHP) for their partnership with Seven Counties Services/Bellewood & Brooklawn (SCS/B&B) in recent years. This past July, they were an integral part of the SCS/B&B Winners for Wellness Mental Health Summit.

Bruce Ferguson was a passionate advocate — and Seven Counties Services/Bellewood & Brooklawn board member — for the children, families, and communities SCS/B&B serves for nearly 20 years. Ferguson’s remarkable legacy of encouragement inspires others to become involved and serve the most vulnerable. To honor his great service and commitment, Seven Counties Services/Bellewood & Brooklawn created an award in his honor, “The Bruce W. Ferguson — Healer of Hearts & Minds Award.

This award will be presented annually to a member of the community to recognize significant contributions to Seven Counties Services/Bellewood & Brooklawn’s mission, and to encourage volunteerism and board membership. This year’s inaugural award was presented to the National Council of Jewish Women for their dedication to the SCS/B&B mission.
