Governance Training

We provide our members with a governance training program that is specifically designed for faith-based organizations by the Center for Faith-Based Leadership.
The Vocation of the Trustee (VOT) is a facilitated, interactive teaching tool that helps governing boards understand the full scope of their responsibilities and function effectively.
VOT consists of two components. “Called to God’s Work” explores the theological dimension of board work as participation in God’s ongoing work in the world. Board members explore their own passion and sense of call for the work and align the vocation of the organization with their personal commitments.
The second component, “Doing God’s Work,” incorporates a theological dimension into the framework for nonprofit governance developed by Richard Chait and William Ryan at the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard.
VOT is ideally conducted in a board retreat setting allowing for at least five hours to complete both components. However, the components can be split into two sessions or used independently.
